Azorace
An exceptional model for good conditions on the slope, frontside as well as in dyynamic soaring.
Powerful, fast, exciting!
Conceptual Design
Why Azorace?
Racing RC-planes on Azores islands we have experienced several times on vacation...The Azores offer great slopes and DS opportunities, slope flying to the bone!
During the 2019 slope flying vacation, Uwe came up with the idea to design a flying wing specifically for medium to good conditions. A blended-wing-body design promises best dynamic soaring performance and an extraordinary, exciting design.
In frontside flying the glider excells already empty, ballasted the U-turns become huge!
Flying on the dark side, already the normal (heavy slope/light DS version offers enough strength for regular pilots going up to ~180mph in less then ideal conditions. The wing skins are strong enough to handle mediocre landing fields, stones etc. mostly without damage and without a fuselage to shear off, the most common weak spot is eliminated.
The airfoils are specifically calculated for the complex outline and optimized for maximum acceleration and top speed.
Key Features:
- Plank-type flying wing for fast slope flight and DS in medium to good conditions.
- 2.2m wingspan
- Take-off weight from ~2000g (50g/dm²)
- 3-piece wing with plugged tail boom for very handy packing size <1m
- 4 flap wing for 10mm servos with good braking flaps
- Ballasting via rectangular connectors almost in the center of gravity and or in the spacious center section
- Extremely stiff and robust construction for top speeds and rough landings
- Takeoff by hand or preferably with bungee
CAD
The aerodynamic specifications were implemented in CAD according to "engineering best practice":
- All airfoils aerodynamically smoothed, waveless surface.
- Innovative tailplane connection with undisturbed wing top surface
- 3-part wing for extremely small transport dimensions of less than 1m
- Almost Center of gravity neutral ballasting.
- Tail boom secured with Tape as predetermined breaking point
- Optimized tail geometry for reduced drag and minimized yaw oscillation
- Straight hinge line ensures low rudder forces
- All openings for servos, receiver and batteries are generously sized for easy removal
Layup
The Azorace is manufactured in Europe with similar construction to the XBow².
- Stiff and extremely strong construction for rough slope and DS flying.
- Massive hard shell in front of the spar with various carbon and Kevlar reinforcement layers
- Double carbon sandwich construction behind the spar
- All force lines and openings extra reinforced
- Spar and auxiliary webs made of braided tubing
- Tail unit in robust solidcore construction

Since OneWing is run as a sideline, the response time can sometimes be longer depending on the workload. We ask for your indulgence and are not angry if you receive a second mail if your patience is overstrained. ;-)
