The XL Bow with 100inch span
F3F performance in a backpack or trunk-friendly package (<1m)
The highest level of flying wing performance and easy of use!
Conceptual Design
The XBow² has set standards in flight performance with such compact models on the slope over the last 3 years and has delighted many customers.
We and many other XBow pilots naturally wondered how much performance would be in a full-blown Bow. Through many iterations, a new outline was designed based on the XBow². 100"(254cm) models are extremely popular on the slope due to their full-grown flight performance, high dynamics and maneuverability. In the F3F class, models of this size have also appeared in the right conditions. Therefore this wingspan was quickly decided.
Also the requirement profile was defined on the F3F flight task to be able to cover a broad spectrum of weather conditions and slopes.
The key features:
- 254cm wingspan
- 48dm² wing area
- Take off weight from ~2100g (43g/dm²)
- Design with extremely thin airfoils (7%-5%) for maximum performance and speed
- Good lift reserves for crisp turns and good thermal performance
- Easy hand launch on slope or bungee launch on level ground
- Three-part wing for minimum packing size (<1m)
- Four-flap wing with (practically) neutral flaps, strong butterfly effect
- Cambering capability for better thermal performance
- Gentle stall behavior
- Center of gravity neutral ballastability due to ballast chambers in the center section
- In addition, the carbon connectors can be exchanged for steel during storms, the tail boom is then extended to compensate.
- Sufficient space for 10mm servos, also in the outer wing
- Specially calculated airfoil by UweH
*I don't know anymore how I came up with the name...XLBow was too boring for me and somehow we turned everything upside down ;-)
The outcome was MobLX...you can pronounce it Mobelix, or Mob-LX or how you like...
CAD
The aerodynamic specifications were implemented in CAD according to "engineering best practice":
- All profiles are aerodynamically smoothed
- 3-part wing for extremely small transport dimensions of less than 1m
- Ballast chamber in the center of gravity for neutral ballasting without center of gravity migration
- Additional ballasting possibility by inserting steel connectors
- Tail boom is secured with tape to minimize damage to the tail boom during hard landings
- Optimized tail geometry for reduced drag and minimized oscillation
- An absolutely straight hinge line ensures low rudder forces
- All openings for servos, receiver and batteries are generously designed for easy removal
Layup
The performance-oriented design requires the very best materials and manufacturing of the very highest quality.
The wing is manufactured much more elaborately and with more material input than normal models in order to be able to take the higher loads of the swept wing and landing loads.
- Manufactured in high-precision aluminum molds
- Rigid, extremely strong and light wing structure with very stiff flaps
- Shell in 75g/m² IMS65 spread tow, double carbon
- DBox outside doubled with IMS
- DBox inside doubled with Kevlar and IMS, additional nose reinforcement
- approx. ~4m² carbon fabric are processed per model!
- HM spars and joiners with tightest tolerance
- Milled spar webs
- All cut-outs and force introductions sensibly reinforced
- Tail in ultra-light solidcore construction and spread carbon CW50
- Turned aluminum tailplane connection
- Prepreg carbon tail boom
Grafics
The MobLX is elaborately painted in the mold. You can select from a broad range of color schemes with sufficient lead time depending on availability.
Please use the contact form for all kinds of inquiries. We will try to get back to you as soon as possible. Since OneWing is run as a sideline, the response time can sometimes be longer depending on the workload. We ask for your indulgence and are not angry if you receive a second mail if your patience is overstrained. ;-)
